Why this Cook County guide exists
Illinois law describes categories of arrest information that a law-enforcement agency may need to make available, subject to exemptions. The official rule is in 5 ILCS 140/2.15. The practical question is still which office created the record. The Cook County Sheriff's Office operates the Cook County Department of Corrections, commonly called CCDOC, and maintains the Individual in Custody Locator. Chicago Police Department maintains its own Adult Arrest Search. The Cook County Clerk holds court files, while the Illinois Department of Corrections maintains the search for people in state custody.
This site gathers those official links, the distinctions between a booking and a later court disposition, and the records-request routes that fill gaps in an online search. A current CCDOC result is not a complete Cook County arrest history. A CPD result is not a Sheriff or suburban police result. The source office remains the place to verify a record, custody status, release, or correction.
What the site helps you find
The pages are organized around the records questions people commonly bring to a Cook County search:
- The home guide explains the CCDOC locator, booking-photo timing, CPD search limits, county records requests, court disposition, and state or federal custody paths.
- Most Wanted keeps current wanted notices and the official Cook County warrant-check route separate from ordinary arrest and booking records.
- Crime News & Mugshots explains how local reporting can provide context while official agency and court records remain the verification sources.
- The Chicago, Elgin, and Cicero pages identify each local police records route, the different booking destinations, and the jurisdiction limits that matter in each municipality.
- The guide also points to the Cook County Clerk Criminal Department, the IDOC Individual in Custody Search, and official expungement and sealing information when the question concerns a court outcome or a later record change.
What this private site cannot do
Cook County Busted Mugshots is privately run. It has no connection to CCSO, CCDOC, CPD, the Illinois Department of Corrections, the Cook County Clerk, or any other government agency, sheriff's office, jail, or corrections department. It cannot release, hold, or transfer a person in custody. It cannot post bond, schedule a visit, send money, file a records request for someone else, or give legal advice.
- It cannot confirm that a person is currently in custody or has been released.
- It cannot change a booking entry, court file, warrant record, or state custody record.
- It cannot promise that an agency phone number, address, fee, search result, or response instruction has not changed.
- It cannot decide whether a person is guilty. A booking or charge is an accusation, and each person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. A municipal or CPD charge, a CCDOC custody result, an IDOC state-custody result, and a federal locator result answer different questions.
For a current custody answer, charge, release detail, or official copy, use the originating agency. CCSO or CCDOC can address county custody, an arresting police department can address its own booking record, and the Clerk can address court-file information.
Search-partner disclosure
Some pages may include a search tool operated by a third-party provider. That provider sets its own prices, terms, privacy practices, and result coverage. If a visitor follows a partner link and chooses a paid service, this site may receive a referral fee that helps support the site. A referral does not make the partner an official Cook County source, and it does not make this site the custodian of a booking photo or record.
