Information you choose to send
Search terms
A name, place, or other text entered into a search tool is sent to the third-party provider that operates that tool. Cook County Busted Mugshots does not store or log those search terms on its own servers. The provider’s own privacy notice controls its handling of the query.
Messages and requests
If you email the site or send a contact message, the message and the details needed to reply may be retained. Those messages are not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is needed to provide a response, protect the site, or comply with a lawful request.
Technical information collected on visits
Like most websites, the site may receive routine technical details when a page loads. Depending on the hosting, analytics, and security services in use, that information can include:
- IP address
- Browser name and version
- Device type and operating system
- Pages viewed and the time spent on each page
- The referring site, when one is supplied
- Access dates and timestamps
Cookies and similar tools

How the information is used
- Keep the Cook County guide available, secure, and reasonably fast.
- Send a search request to the partner service selected for that tool.
- Understand which pages and official source paths are useful to visitors.
- Find errors, abuse, and technical failures.
- Display advertising that may be relevant to general visitor interests.
This policy does not change the rules of an official custodian. For example, Illinois FOIA Section 2.15 describes certain arrest information that an agency may make available, but CCSO, CPD, the Clerk, and IDOC control their own records and request systems.

This site links to the CCDOC Individual in Custody Locator, the CCSO FOIA request page, CPD’s Adult Arrest Search, the Cook County Clerk Criminal Department, the IDOC search, and other government or third-party resources. Once you leave this site, the destination’s privacy policy, cookies, data practices, and terms apply. Cook County Busted Mugshots does not control those systems or promise that they will remain available.
Advertising partners may measure activity across different websites on their own systems to provide interest-based advertising. Their practices are governed by their notices, not this page.
Who may receive information
Cook County Busted Mugshots does not sell personal data. Information may be available to the following groups when needed for the purposes described above:
- Search partners that process queries submitted through their tools.
- Analytics and hosting providers that help operate or measure the site.
- Advertising networks and their service providers.
- Law-enforcement or other government bodies when a valid legal order or other lawful process requires disclosure.
Security limits
Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards are used for information the site controls. No internet-connected system is completely secure, however, so this site cannot promise that information will never be lost, intercepted, or accessed without permission.
Visitors under 18
The site is intended for adults. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor has sent personal information, a parent or guardian may use the Contact Us route to ask that the information be deleted from systems the site controls.
Choices about your information
- Ask for a copy of personal information held by this site.
- Ask that inaccurate information controlled by this site be corrected.
- Ask for deletion where the site has a legal and practical duty to honor the request.
- Ask to opt out of certain nonessential processing, such as some analytics or advertising.
Requests may be sent through Contact Us. These choices do not change an official CCDOC, CPD, Clerk, or IDOC record, and the site cannot delete information held by those agencies or by a linked provider.
Changes to this privacy policy
This policy may be revised when the site, its tools, or its data practices change. The updated version will appear on this page with a new effective date or other notice of the change. Continued use after an update means the revised policy applies to future visits.
