Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions govern use of Cook County Busted Mugshots. The site is a private reference guide to official Cook County, Illinois records paths. If you do not accept these terms, do not use the site or its linked tools.

Cook County Busted Mugshots is privately owned and is not connected with any government body, sheriff, jail, or corrections department. Neither this site nor its advertising partners offers FCRA-covered services. The site is not a private investigation firm or a consumer reporting agency. Its purpose is to help visitors locate official inmate and jail-record resources in Cook County and Illinois, not to make decisions about people.

What this Cook County site is

This is a private reference site with no authority over CCSO, CCDOC, CPD, the Cook County Clerk, IDOC, or any other records custodian. It stores no official jail roster, cannot confirm custody, cannot release anyone, and cannot file a government record request for a visitor. It points readers toward the official CCDOC locator, the CCSO FOIA route, the CPD search, the Cook County Clerk Criminal Department, the IDOC search, and other official sources instead.

Illinois 5 ILCS 140/2.15 describes certain arrest information that law-enforcement agencies make available, subject to exemptions. 815 ILCS 505/2QQQ addresses websites and publishers that solicit or accept fees to remove, correct, or modify criminal-record information. Those laws do not make this private site an official custodian. This site does not offer a paid-removal service or promise a change to an agency or court record.

Rules for responsible use

  • Follow all applicable laws while using the site and its links.
  • Do not use information to stalk, harass, threaten, or endanger another person.
  • Do not pretend to be CCSO, CCDOC, CPD, the Clerk, IDOC, or any other official office.
  • Do not seek unauthorized access to the site, its hosting, its partners, or another visitor’s account.
  • Do not run bots, scrapers, or automated requests that burden or copy the site.
  • Do not interfere with the site’s availability or another visitor’s use.

FCRA restrictions

Cook County Busted Mugshots is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. It does not prepare background checks, credit reports, or consumer reports, and neither the site nor its ad partners provides screening services. You agree not to use information from this site or a linked partner for an FCRA-covered purpose, including:

  • Hiring, firing, promotion, or other employment decisions.
  • Tenant or housing screening.
  • Creditworthiness decisions or insurance pricing.
  • Licensing, permits, or eligibility for a government program.
  • Any other purpose regulated by the FCRA.

Government and outside links

Links may lead to CCDOC, CCSO FOIA, CPD, municipal police records, the Cook County Clerk, IDOC, federal locators, legal resources, news coverage, or a third-party search service. A link is provided for navigation and is not an endorsement. Cook County Busted Mugshots does not control an outside website’s content, accuracy, pricing, privacy practices, security, or uptime. Read the destination’s terms before submitting information.

No warranties about records or access

The site and its material are supplied “as is.” To the fullest extent allowed by law, no warranty is made that the content or a linked search will be:

  • Accurate, complete, current, or free of an agency delay.
  • Available without interruption.
  • Free from errors, bugs, or security weaknesses.
  • Complete in the results returned by a partner search service.

Custody status and public records change. Nothing on this site is an official statement from a sheriff’s office, jail, police department, court, state department, or other government agency. A booking entry or charge is an accusation, not a conviction, and every person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. A local police record, CCDOC result, IDOC result, and federal locator result describe different custody states and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cook County Busted Mugshots and the people who operate it will not be liable for losses or damages arising from access to, inability to access, or reliance on this site, its content, or an outside service. This limit applies to direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, and other losses to the extent the law allows.

Your responsibility to protect us

You agree to defend and hold Cook County Busted Mugshots and its operators harmless from claims, losses, costs, and expenses that result from your use of the site, your misuse of a record, or your breach of these terms. This includes reasonable legal fees where permitted by law.

Ownership of site material

The site’s written material, graphics, logos, layout, and code belong to Cook County Busted Mugshots or its content partners unless another owner is identified. You may not copy, distribute, modify, sell, or republish protected material without written permission, except where applicable law gives you a separate right.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be revised at any time. A new version takes effect when it is posted on this page. Continued use after posting means that you accept the updated terms.

Access may be restricted

Access to all or part of the site may be limited, suspended, or blocked at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including misuse, security concerns, or operational needs.

Illinois law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without treating its conflict-of-law rules as a reason to apply another state’s law. Any dispute must be filed in a court located in Illinois, unless applicable law requires a different forum.

If one term cannot be enforced

If a court finds any part of these terms invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. The affected language will be narrowed or adjusted only as much as needed to make it enforceable.

Questions about the terms

Questions about these Terms & Conditions may be sent through the Contact Us page. Questions about a custody result, arrest report, court file, or state record must go to the official custodian listed there.
